Rock Garden Tour 44: The Deforestation of Forestburg, SD

Last night's Rock Garden Tour on SDPB Radio covered most of the bases with less talk, more witty banter about cantaloupe, and Forestburg, SD, and Oil Can's stunt double, and whatever. Twas a lot of fun. This guy (above) had nothing to do with any of it. I captured some video of him yesterday at the Pioneer Power Show in Menno, SD. He bought that magic Wing & Son piano at a farm auction more than 25 years ago, restored it, and now it plays just like ringing a bell. Talked a bit about musksmellin' last night on the original rock and roll gardening show. A graphic designer that appeared in Rock Garden Tour's Devils Gulch Adventure, MagicMouse recently dropped a signature set of Rock Garden Tour buttons on top of the studio desk, a welcome sound effect for Tonya, Rock Garden Tour Stage Manager And General Hard Ass. 'The prize situation has been less than stellar since Puerta Vallarta stopped filling their 50 cent vending machine with fake mustaches. It's been a source of frustration for corporate. 2 weeks ago they (Flowerman and Oil Can) tried to give away a fake mustache that Badger crafted out of some double stick tape and a hunk of Oil Can's beard. Last week they made do with a virtual Kevin Costner bobble head doll. We're ready to put all of that behind us.' With the emergence of MagicMouse's signature set of Rock Garden Tour buttons, it appears that Flowerman and Oil Can will do just that. 'Them old days are gone!' said Flowerman. 'It's the straight and narrow from here on, with heaven ever after as our reward' added Oil Can.

Quantum Gardening Outside Presho, SD

Last night on the original rock and roll garden show on KCFS 94.5, we attempted to knock out a show on dormiculture, gardening in small spaces like dorms, effeciency apartments, Volkswaggens, cardboard boxes, black holes, etc...We spent most of our time talking about honey badgers and quantum gardening and Presho, SD. If it weren't for some most righteous free range rock & roll and some decent haiku poetry by Oil Can, Tonya (Rock Garden Tour Stage Manager) would have pulled the plug by intermission. Instead we pulled it off, another short term goal accomplished. Stay tuned for the podcast, make note of the playlist, and as always - keep it rural.

We'd like more people out there in the world to start growing their own food, at least that's one of the objectives corporate always talks about. So to keep em (em being corporate in this case) off our back we decided to share an idea that might just inspire non-gardeners to become rock gardeners. Its a stimulus program. We don't have many of the details figured out just yet. In fact, I doubt we'll ever have many of the details figured out. What we do have is a name, and what a name it is.

Rock & Roll Pest Control! Uh-Whoa-OH! Uh-Whoa-OH!

We don't talk enough about the music of the rock garden on this blog. We talk a lot about wiener dogs, and black footed ferrets, and rabid mini-horses. Oil Can cracks wise about the Schnitz bar in Menno, SD. Once in a while, if you catch us in the right mood, we'll even talk about gardening. But somehow through all of the witty banter, we manage to leave out the music. Strange this, when you consider it was our interest in smash faced free range rock and roll that inspired the idea for the Rock Garden Tour in the first place. This ends now.

At least for today, this ends now. The music we blasted over the air waves last night was just too good to go unannounced, massively good, it was soo good that it caused a convective heat burst to melt stuff in the Queen City. So here it is then, the music of last night's Rock Garden Tour on KCFS 94.5.

Brookings, SD, 1996, I pulled my first Young Fresh Fellows album out of a used bin at Sound Station 7. On that cd I found the track titled 'Rock & Roll Pest Control', and right there in a haze of patchouli smack my course was changed forever. The tune inspired the idea for this show, more or less, which isn't really that important. What is really that important is that the Young Fresh Fellows are back. They recently released 'I Think This Is' and we jammed a few tunes from it last night on the show. Good stuff, we're talking convective heat burst good.
